For the launch of a new 4K run/marathon, a collectors finishers medal was commissioned. This particular race is unique, as it is located on an airport runway, and a plane would fly over the event as runners were making their way through the course.

 

It was requested that a portion of the medal was interactive or movable, thus the plane on the propellor was made to spin when in its final, physical form. When designing, the final product must always be kept in mind, as what is allowed for particular products is very specific. With this medal, the 3-D nature needed to be kept in mind, which included indicating which portions were raised, which portions were relief, and which portions would be colored instead of showing the native metal.
